Sheryl Hartigan
I am the Legal Secretary in the Commercial Property department, having joined Crane and Staples in 2015.
I am a CILEX Member - Advanced Paralegal (MCILEX) and am currently studying to gain a CILEx Lawyer qualification.
I completed the Legal Practice Course and also have a Joint Honours degree in Law with Journalism and Media Cultures, both obtained from the University of Hertfordshire. I have also previously volunteered at a local Citizens Advice Bureau.
I support the Commercial and Residential Property Department with various legal and administrative tasks. This includes liaising with clients, solicitors and other industry professionals throughout the transaction, along with any other pre and post completion tasks that need carrying out.
Some of the areas our department covers are:
- Selling and purchasing both commercial premises and residential properties
- Selling or purchasing a business
- Selling or taking a lease
- Lease renewals
- Lease extensions
- Leasehold enfranchisement
I also help organise and assist with the firm's internal marketing, charitable and social events (including the Legal Bake Off, Theatre Trips and the highly coveted Strictly Sweepstake!). In 2018 I assisted the then Hertfordshire Law Society President, Attia Hussain, with the organisation of the Hertfordshire Law Society Annual Dinner, as my background before joining Crane and Staples was in events and marketing.
I am a committee member of the Hertfordshire Junior Lawyers Division which I’m so pleased and proud to be a part of. We organise a range of training and networking/work-social events for junior lawyers throughout the year.
Outside the Office
I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, going for meals out, holidays, long walks and going to a Pilates class when I can! I like keeping up to date with showbiz/entertainment news and I love live music and theatre, so I always look forward to festival season and going to an outdoor cinema if I can.
As part of the firm’s charitable events, I have also taken part in a 5k Pretty Muddy, and Bubble Run (not at the same time!), an 8km St Albans legal walk and a 5k Race For Life.
