Crane & Staples goes to the movies with The Super Mario Bros at the Screen on the Green

What is the Screen on the Green?
The Screen on the Green is an annual outdoor cinema event in Welwyn Garden City. Entry is free as it is funded by the businesses in Welwyn Garden City town centre and Campus West Cinema.
9 family-friendly blockbuster movies are scheduled over three days, from Thursday 17th to Saturday 19th August. It is an outdoor event, located on the green in Welwyn Garden City town centre. This makes it perfect for the summer holidays, and a great activity for local children and families to enjoy. Hopefully the sun will be shining!
Super Mario Bros
At Crane & Staples, we chose to sponsor the Super Mario Bros movie. This recent box office hit was popular with our staff and their families. We also felt nostalgic, remembering playing Super Mario games in arcades, on the Nintendo 64, Gameboy, Wii or Switch (showing the wide age range of our staff!).
Our Advert
Part of our sponsorship package included producing an advert, to be shown before the films. We wanted our advert to be in theme with the event, so decided to make a fun Mario parody video, starring our staff. The premise is ‘Lawyers with Character’ and shows how Crane & Staples Solicitors can help you avoid legal traps, in the same way that Mario avoids traps such as banana skins and shells!
Our staff had a real laugh dressing up as different Mario characters, playing with plungers and princess tiaras! We made some of our own costumes and props, including a custom-made Bowser costume. When we were finished, the costumes were given to some of our staff’s children.

When filming started, it became very clear that we are much better lawyers than we are actors! We are definitely happier in Welwyn Garden City than we would be in Hollywood!

Bloopers
To embarrass ourselves further, we are also sharing our blooper reel. This shows just how much fun we had making the advert. It was very amusing to see our lawyers, who are so used to getting things right, suddenly getting things wrong in front of the camera!
VIP Goody Bags
Whilst the event is free, VIP deck chair seats can also be purchased here for £5.50 each. VIP goody bags at the screening of Super Mario Bros will include our Mario-themed sweet cones, produced by local entrepreneur Sweetlicious by Rachel. These delicious treats will be perfect to enjoy while watching the film! Thank you, Rachel!
The goody bags will also include leaflets and merchandise from all the wonderful Welwyn Garden City businesses that are supporting the event.
